Cisco’s new retainer service focuses on executive systems. Organizations considering added scrutiny should define the people, information and response responsibilities involved before relying on coverage.

Cisco Talos Incident Response announced Executive Threat Detection on September 29, a retainer service covering up to ten principals. Talos says it provides monthly human-led threat hunts and reports focused on those principals’ corporate systems. The service adds a dedicated review cycle for executive environments. Talos announcement.

Talos links that focus to leaders’ access to sensitive financial information and strategic communications. Its announcement describes a new offering; it does not establish that a particular organization has been breached. Buyers should confirm which people and assets are covered and how findings reach their own decision-makers.

In a separate, agreed engagement, Resonance Monitoring could connect approved telemetry with alert priorities, owners and escalation. Security sources, staffed coverage and response authority depend on the service schedule. Talos’s human-led reviews remain a separate service.

We would propose starting with one executive team and a written account of who receives concerning signals about its corporate accounts and devices. Include the executive’s delegate in that discussion: someone must be able to reach a decision-maker when the principal is unavailable. Record the authority to act alongside each contact.

Before accepting coverage, use an agreed harmless event to check routing, confirm a missing source is noticed, and test escalation with the primary owner absent. Preserve acknowledgment and the next permitted action as evidence. This would establish a usable response handoff while leaving any unmonitored accounts or systems clearly identified for the buyer.
